Ori-Tecture: Where Origami Meets Architecture

An innovative exhibition titled “Ori-Tecture” is redefining the boundaries between art, geometry, and architecture. Curated by Ar. Ume Fatima from the Architecture Department at UCAD, the project explores how the ancient art of origami can inspire modern spatial design.

The exhibition brings together the creative work of several young designers who experiment with folds, precision, and geometric transformations to shape architectural spaces. At its core, Ori-Tecture investigates how simple paper-folding techniques can evolve into complex structural systems used in real-world design.

One of the central themes highlighted is modular geometry, where participants such as Fatima Daud, Qaswa Azhar, Kareema Qudoos, and Fida Hussain present origami as a framework for spatial innovation. Their work demonstrates how repeated geometric patterns can create flexible and adaptive structures.

Another key focus is digital fabrication. Contributors including Mahnoor Imran, Mahnoor Faisal, Ayesha Ali, and Okasha Bin Sharafat showcase how digital tools can transform conceptual designs into tangible architectural solutions. Their projects bridge the gap between imagination and construction.

The exhibition also features origami tessellation, explored by Aimen Mohsin, Urooj Aamir, and Umar Liaqat. Their designs emphasize the aesthetic and functional potential of folding techniques in creating dynamic and expressive spaces.

Additionally, the concept of modular iteration is presented by Khansa Butt, Syeda Rameen Gillani, Emaan Qadeer, and Muhammad Sohaib. Their work highlights how sharp folds and soft spatial transitions can coexist, resulting in architecture that feels both structured and fluid.

Overall, Ori-Tecture stands as a testament to the power of interdisciplinary design. By merging traditional art forms with modern technology, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the future of architecture one where creativity, precision, and innovation fold seamlessly into one another.
