NED University of Engineering and Technology has announced the renewal of its prestigious UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Urban Regions until 30 June 2030, reaffirming UNESCO’s confidence in the University’s sustained contributions to research, education, capacity building, and international knowledge exchange in the field of sustainable urban development.
The renewed mandate will continue under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor of NED University, who serves as the UNESCO Chairholder. Under his guidance, the Chair has emerged as an important platform for promoting interdisciplinary research, fostering academic excellence, and strengthening collaboration among universities, policymakers, professionals, and international institutions working towards sustainable urban development.
Over the next five years, the UNESCO Chair will continue to advance research, teaching, professional training, policy dialogue, and community engagement while encouraging innovative approaches to address the complex challenges facing rapidly urbanizing regions. The initiative aims to support the development of resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible cities through evidence-based research, knowledge sharing, and international cooperation.
