An open letter by the past IAP President

Malaika will be conferred with the award of “Sitare Imtiaz” insult to the profession of architecture in Pakistan

Dear Arch Arif Changezi, Chairman, PCATP & Dear President IAP Arch Saad Mahmood,

The Govt of Pakistan has announced that Ms. Malaika Junaid will be conferred with the award of “Sitare Imtiaz” for her contribution to the field of Architecture in Pakistan.

According to my information Ms. Malaika has a practice in Los Angeles USA doing residential architecture and is not registered as an architect with the PCATP or IAP (please check) and has no contribution to architecture in Pakistan. It is amazing/disgusting how she has been nominated for the award. Was the IAP/PCATP consulted on this? Who nominated her? An award to her will denigrate the dignity of the national award and be an insult to the profession of architecture in Pakistan where many architects have contributed to the development of architecture in Pakistan.

I request the Chairman PCATP to write a formal letter of objection/discontent to the award to Ms. Junaid on behalf of the profession to the office of the Prime minister of Pakistan and the office of the President of Pakistan.

A large number of members of the profession have come to me with expressions of dismay.

We look forward to your positive action in this regard for the profession and the country.

With kind regards,

Past President IAP Arch. Ejaz Ahed

FIAP Lifetime Member PCATP
