IAP-RIC also hosted Board of Architectural Education (BAE), HOD’s meeting at the Secretariat on 20th September 2022 attended by HOD’s and faculty members of 5 prominent architecture schools. BAE had invited HOD’s & Thesis Advisors for a group discussion on the following:
* Selection Criteria for Thesis Projects in Bachelors of Architecture &
* Accreditation Processes & its Perimeters
In this meeting HOD’s and faculty members of the following Institutes attended:
* CECOS, Peshawar
* City University, Peshawar
* COMSATS University Islamabad
* Hazara University, Mansehra
* NCA, Rawalpindi Campus
* UET Peshawar, Abbottabad Campus
* For agenda item One, each school was asked to prepare a five-minute presentation on how they conducted their thesis. Juror selection, topic selection criteria and process, evaluative considerations, and attributes they consider essential in their graduating architects. After the short and concise presentations, the HOD’s and thesis teams had a candid discussion related to thesis management in their schools. This session yielded some very critical points.
* For session two, it was requested that some pointers be prepared by the HOD’s so the discussion could be conducted in a structured manner. In the end the following was discussed: All participants were cognizant of the fact that regulation of the profession and academia was essential to uphold and improve the standards of architecture as a profession. However, the gist of the concerns of schools was that PCATP needs to be flexible in its approach in dealing with schools from different regions of Pakistan. With reference to KPK the participants were of the view that the approach should be to let these schools run for they have been the torchbearers of Architectural Education in KPK instead of shutting them down. The HOD’s expressed their concerns that the constraints they faced in the region are not being considered by PCATP. The major constraints were:
* Faculty
* Student Internship
* Curriculum
* Infrastructure
* Qualification of Head of Department
