Department of Architecture and Planning at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DAP-DUET), Karachi, organized an event to inaugurate the murals painted by the students on the exterior walls of DUET campus. The idea conceived by the faculty members of DAP DUET, Ar. Furqan Khan, Ar. Junaid Khanzada and Ar. Tabish Tariq. The activity was carried out by the students of 3rd and 4th years under the able guidance of the faculty and the best resources. The students zealously filled the walls with the colorful landscape.
Artist Masood Akhtar conducted a sketching and painting workshop which helped the students to paint and draw the murals. He was actively involved with students, giving them hands-on training. The workshop was generously sponsored by Nelson Paints, they provided the raw material including paints and brushes.
Dr. Yasira Naeem Pasha, Chairperson Department of Architecture and Planning, DUET has been marvelously instrumental in guiding and encouraging the faculty as well as the students throughout this activity. Her vision of enabling the students to explore novel approaches in allied activities to architecture reflected in many ventures undertaken at the department. In addition to that, the student’s creativity was revealed at its best when they constructed a sculpture made of wires and mesh. The concept, idea, and making of the sculpture were executed by the students. The department is excelling in experimenting and creating design solutions with relevance to the contemporary times that can best contribute to the betterment of society.
Dr. Faizullah Abbasi Vice-Chancellor of Dawood University has proven himself to be a source of support who guides his staff members towards excellence. “University of Relevance” is best evident through these activities. Architect Murtuza Shikoh, Architect Ejaz Ahed, Architect Arif Changezi, Architect Arif Hasan, Architect Yadullah Haider, Architect Khadija Jamal, Architect Mumtaz Jilani, Architect Sheema Aamir, the Managing Director of Nelson Paints Mr. Sirajuddin, and Mr. Faizan, faculty members, and the students attended the ceremony and made the event of inauguration successful.
Some words of appreciation said by Architect Arif Changezi as well as by Architect Ejaz Ahed who applauded the hard work of students for trying to make society a better place. Architect Sheema Aamir on the behalf of the Alumni Association assured her support in such future activities of the department.
These projects and appreciation motivate the students to excel through working hard. Many other ventures like these projects are in the pipeline. The activities in the department are evident of the fact that it is approaching diversified ventures that help achieve excellence.
